Congratulations to Amy for her winning the 2006 NPC Nationals Fitness competition in Miami Beach, November 11. Amy won the B class fitness competition as well as the overall and turns pro. Originally from Southern California (The OC ! ) Amy Villa-Nelson has an extensive background in dance,gymnastics, ice-skating, swimming, and cross country. During Amy's career as a dancer/singer she danced for Disneyland shows and cruise lines until becaming a professional Latin dancer. She even had a recording contract in the works with a great label in Nashville where she lived for about a year. "Life happened and I stayed with dancing." She ended up moving to NewYork to be in a Broadway musical !! "I thought my dream had come true, but that ended up on hold (which is a whole other story!) and also caused my retirement from the ballroom world. She was itching for more and fell into fitness once she saw a competition on television one day and thought ...hey I can do that! I have the gymnastics and dance background. That was in 2004. Amy trained an entire year before getting up on stage at the New York Metropolitan in 2005 where she took 1st in her class. She was happy but new she needed to get a bit more developed. Also in 2005 she went to Team Universe to see were she stood on a National level. Amy was happy to place 8th that year, but was a bit mad at herself for not doing a routine she knew she was capable of. "I was not healthy enough and that kept me out of the top 5. I placed 2nd in the 2-piece and 6th in 1-piece. I decided not to go to Nationals and take a good break and come back the following year. I won the overall at the 2006 New York Metropolitan this year! Finally put up a package I can be proud of!! Then went to Team Universe and took 3rd !! I new I could do better !! health is the sole component to doing your best!!
